The Caverns of Hammerfest

Attack of the Evil Vegtables.

In this game, you play a snowman called Igor who is trying to free his vegetable friends from an evil sorcerer. Sound weird enough yet? I didn’t even tell you about the magic teleporters, the bombs the main character can make out of himself (or is it out of thin air?), and the numerous items that change how the game works, if only for a little while. The whole game makes me wonder if the game designers were tripping on something when they came up with the idea.

This game is an interesting type of play-a-day. Every day you get a single play that you journey down into a well in an attempt to get to the bottom and free your friends. You always start at the top, but through venturing down you finish collections that give you more lives and increase your chances of survival and getting as far as possible.

One of the great things about this game is the humor in the items. I’m not going to spoil some of the items, but they are quite funny. Another great thing is the unlocks. Some of them give you more lives, make your bombs better, and make items drop that increase your points faster.

One of the bad things is that progress doesn’t get saved in some ways. You always start at the very top and have to make it all the way down. My personnel best is in the mid-thirties in terms of levels beaten, and that is with more than a month of practice. Also, the unlocks can get tedious and take a long time to get.

Overall, its fun to play every once and a while, but it won’t be a game that you’ll become addicted to.
