Queen of Wands
For those of you who know Tarot cards, you know what this is. For those of you who don’t it doesn’t really matter. Queen of Wands follows the adventures of Shannon, Kestral, and Felix (as well as numerous other people they encounter along the way). Shannon and Felix are married, and Shannon is their mutual friend who lives with them. In part of her commentary the author Aeire reveals that much of the comic (especially the early parts) is autobiographical, and she doesn’t pull any punches. There are a few joke-a-day strips in this comic, but much of the comic is large, deeply emotional, conversations and stories. I would not recommend this comic to anyone who reads webcomics just for laughs (I do have others that are like this if you want to go through the other parts of this section). The characters in this comic are real in a way that very few comics attempt to be, let alone succeed in. There is a deep philosophical undertone to most of the strips that makes this comic resonate with me and with many people I’ve shown it to. There is one major problem with this comic in my opinion: The story is over. The last strip was published in late 2006 and there are no more strips planned. The artist has moved onto a new comic (a sequel called Punch & Pie which follows one of the characters introduced in the comic) and has only left the site up for those people who wish to go back and look the comic over. Some people may have an issue with a few of the comics which are more text than grpahics so as to move the storyline along, but I think they can be a refreshing break. Note: There are a few crossovers with another strip called Something Positive (I believe) and Kestral joined the cast of that webcomic when Queen of Wands ended.
