Dark Age Wars
Lets get medieval.
Oh empire-builders. I have a bit of a love-hate relationship with the entire genre, like many FreeMMO gamers. Nothing is more fun than crushing someone into the dirt for spying on one of your towns. Unfortunetly, this also causes one of the biggest complaints on the genre: How quickly you can lose hours/days/weeks/MONTHS EVEN of work because you didn’t log in for a day and some bigger player thought your cities looked pretty.
Now, on to this game in particularly. One thing this game does interestingly well is how immersive the world is. You can actually take over the Vatican from the Pope if you are strong enough. This combined with having buildings that require others to get past certain points and units that can experience for winning fights (but can lose squad units without dying completely) are a very nice combination.
Unfortunetly, the downsides to this game are overly harsh. With three times the units and archers to take out enemy infantry, I still lost. Ok, I can take troop loses, but when said troops cost hours of time spent clicking a button like a robot, combined with the low returns from a successful farming, make farming a tedious and almost useless endeavor. And, as anyone who plays empire-builders knows, without farming, building is SLOW.
I hate having to say that games don’t live up to their potential, but this is definitely one for that group.
