8 bit Theater

Not your daddy’s sprite games.

8 bit Theater is based off of the almost generic genre of sprite games. You have a party of four heroes who adventure to save the world through various madcap adventures. But what happens when one mage is evil, the warrior has no brains, the rogue is only concerned with money, and the other mage just cares about bending the rules of space and time to make himself more powerful? Utter hilarious adventures. These four heroes think they are the legendary group who is destined to save the world from complete destruction (which one of the mages, Black Mage, wants to bring about anyways). Unfortunetly for the world, they are doing a better job of it then the four people who actually WERE destined to do it.

One of the great things about this comic is the humor in the writing.  The comic makes fun of just about every game in the genre without seeming to have an agenda in doing so. This, combined with the large archive had me laughing for over a week as I was researching this comic.

There are two main problems with this comics in my opinion. First off, like in most sprite comics, the art is repetitive. This is a major facet of the genre, and can’t really be overcome too easily without changing color schemes every few months, which only staves off the problem. Also, this comic is nearing the need. The final boss has gone down, and the epilogue is currently being written. No new comics have come out in months, and when it starts up again, its only going to be for a little while.

Overall, definitely worth a read, but you’re not likely to add this comic to your group of comics you follow
